Kaizer Chiefs marched on in their Absa Premiership title chase with a 1-0 victory over Chippa United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday. It took 15 minutes for the teams to get a clear chance at goal. Kingston Nkhatha had his first real chance when he managed to go through the Chippa defence.
The Zimbabwean fell short when he failed to beat the goalkeeper. Erick Mathoho hit the crossbar minutes later with a six yard header after receiving the ball from a free kick by Bernard Parker. George Akpabio managed to go through the Amakhosi defence but Brilliant Khuzwayo scooped the ball away in a one-on-one.
After 30 minutes the game was still sitting at 0-0. Willard Katsande was taken off due to an earlier injury and was replaced by Ivan Bukenya. Nkhatha tried his luck from long range but his shot went wide as half-time arrived with the match still goalless.
The second half saw action in the 51st minute when Reneilwe Letsholonyane fired a shot over the target from 24 yards out. Five minutes later the Glamour Boys opened the scoring when Parker chipped in to put Stuart Baxter’s boys in the lead. In the 75th minute William Twala managed to get into the box but fired inches wide of the post.
Even though Chiefs were dominating the game they were not able to add any more goals. The game ended 1-0 to the league leaders as they bagged another three points and remain unbeaten.
