Kazier Chiefs beat Platinum Stars 3-0 at the Moruleng Stadium in Rustenburg on Sunday in the round of 16 of the Telkom Knockout. In the first half Stars started the first few minutes brightly. Masibusana Zongo was showing the crowd his skills and making the Chiefs defenders dizzy but without any result.
Cavin Johnson’s side seemed to be controlling the pace of the game but they were lacking in their set pieces and could not find the breakthrough. It was Amakhosi who got on the scoreboard first, on the stroke of the half-time when Siphiwe Tshabalala took a quality free kick and Erick Mathoho headed the ball in with power. At the beginning of the second half Steve Komphela’s men were lookign good and they came close to scoring a second goal when Tshabalala gave a quality cross to Bernard Parker who was unable to finish as he slightly missed what should have been a goal.
In the 70th minute Camaldine Abraw missed a perfect opportunity when the ball was crossed to him by Edward Manqele and Abraw should have put the ball in but he shot high. Ten minutes later Tshabalala took a quality free kick that unluckily hit the wood work. This goal could have sealed the game for the Soweto giants but they only needed to be patient.
For most of the second half Dikwena created very few chances. Komphela’s charges were controlling most of the half and created more chances. In stoppage time Siphelele Mthembu scored a lovely second goal with his powerful shot before the Glamour Boys rubbed salt into the wounds when George Maluleka chipped the ball into the net deep into added time to book a quarter-final berth at the expense of Johnson’s troops.
