Kaizer Chiefs Charge Past Free State Stars

Kaizer Chiefs hammered Free State Stars 4-0 on Saturday at FNB Stadium in their second Absa Premiership match of the season.  Chiefs were all over the ball with a slow build up and were awarded a first corner kick of the match after a defence-splitting pass from Reneilwe Letsholonyane to Siboniso Gaxa in the third minute.  Ea Lla Koto striker Felix Obada’s shot went wide after Amakhosi’s defence failed to clear a dangerous ball in the box 15 minutes in.

Itumeleng Khune made a brilliant save after finding himself one-on-one with former Naturena striker Sthembiso Ngcobo five minutes later.  Steve Komphela’s side continued with its slow build-up and Stars defender Robert Sankara netted in an own goal after Gaxa played in a beautiful cross into the box.  George Lebese scored the second goal in the 43rd minute from Siphiwe Tshabalala’s pass played behind the visiting defenders.

Zimbabwean defender Liberty Chakoroma scored another own goal making it three for the home side in the 45th minute going to half-time.  Kinnah Phiri’s players came to the second half determined to work their way back into it ahd Lucky Mohomi hit the post just moments into the half.  Both teams kept on going at each other and Tshabalala netted beautiful scorcher from range with his well-trained left foot in the 66th minute to make it 4-0 to Khompela’s side.

The Glamour Boys’ captain forced Johnny Mathole to make a save in the 77th minute which resulted into a corner kick but was cleared by the Stars defence, who prevented any further embarrassment as they left Nasrec with an emphatic defeat.
