A brace from Matthew Rusike helped Kaizer Chiefs defeat Polokwane City 4-1 at the FNB Stadium and claim the Absa Premiership title on Wednesday evening. Amakhosi came into this tie on the brink of claiming their second league title win in three seasons. Three points and the Glamour Boys would have their crown and in all honesty they were heavy favourites considering they handed out a 4-1 thrashing the last time these two teams met. After 26 minutes the home crowd were off their feet as Willard Katsande’s fine pass found George Lebese inside the box and the winger made no mistake with the finish.
Five minutes later and Stuart Baxter’s side doubled their advantage with a fine finish from Bernard Parker. Chiefs led 2-0 at half-time and were now just 45 minutes away from getting their hands on the title. Intent on winning the league title in style the goals continued to flow in the second half.
In the 55th minute Rusike got his name on the scoresheet as he fired Siphiwe Tshabalala’s cut-back into the back of the net. Then the away side pulled a goal back through Rendani Ndou but Rusike grabbed his second and put the game well out of reach for the team from Polokwane.
Cue the celebrations as Amakhosi ran out 4-1winners and claimed their 19th win of the season to secure the league title for the second time in three seasons.
