Jomo Cosmos remained top of the promotion play-off mini league on goal difference after playing out to a goalless draw against Black Leopards in an all-NFD clash at the Vaal Tech Stadium on Wednesday. The visitors settled the quickest and had the game’s first attempt on target in the 18th minute from Ivan Mahangwahaya’s shot, but Sherwin Naicker used his legs well to keep his effort out. Naicker was at hand minutes later to deny Mahangwahaya again as he tipped the striker’s header over the bar.
Lidoda Duvha were in full flow going forward however they found Naicker in goal hard to beat, and it was the Ezenkosi keeper who produced a great double-save in the 28th minute to keep Roggert Nyundu’s efforts out and keep Cosmos in the match. Mahangwahaya had a decent opportunity to get the opener for the visitors in the 43rd minute but Naicker saved comfortably as it remained goalless at the break. Jomo Sono’s men began showing signs of life in the early stages of the second half and registered their first shot on target near the hour-mark – Brice Aka’s shot testing Avhashoni Tshinuna at the near post.
Zeca Marques’ men could have broken the deadlock in the 77th minute after Thabang Monare’s diagonal pass found Thabo Ralebakeng in an on-side position, but his first-time shot lacked power and was easily gathered by Tshinuna. Cosmos had a wonderful opportunity to snatch all three points in the 86th minute but Carlton Mashumba’s strike was superbly saved by Tshinuna as it finished 0-0 at Vanderbijlpark.
