World Rugby proudly unveiled the new official logo for Rugby World Cup 2019, the first official Rugby World Cup logo extension since the rebranding of the International Rugby Board to World Rugby in 2014. The central theme of the new logo is “Unity,” the coming together of the players and fans of Japan (representing Asia as the area’s first host country) with those of the traditional rugby nations, in a truly global celebration of rugby as a world sport. The new tournament logo seamlessly incorporates two iconic symbols of Japan, Mount Fuji and the rising sun, within the overall powerful framework of the World Rugby brand and graphic identity.
Along with the new tournament logo for 2019, World Rugby also released the dates for the opening and final matches, and the venues selected for these matches. Rugby World Cup 2019 will open on September 20, 2019 at Tokyo Stadium, and the final will take place on November 2, 2019 at International Stadium Yokohama, Japan’s highest-capacity stadium (72 327) and the site of the 2002 FIFA World Cup final.
