Paul Stirling will play a key part in Ireland’s batting line up, as he will be opening the batting with his captain William Porterfield. Stirling is an exciting young player with previous World Cup experience. He is an attacking batsman able to dictate terms with the bat and will hold they key for Ireland as they will be hoping for him to give them a great start. O’Brien will also feature once again. In 2015 the Irish have been pooled in Group B alongside South Africa, India, Pakistan, West Indies, Zimbabwe and the United Arab Emirates.
Ireland will be appearing at their third ICC Cricket World Cup and will once again be aiming to make an impact. In 2007 the Irish made their debuts and stunned 1992 champions Pakistan with a three-wicket win on St Patrick’s Day. Former West Indies all-rounder Phil Simmons coaches the side and will want the side to again step up to the plate. In 2011 the Irish sensationally chased down 328 from 111/5 against England, thanks to a Kevin O’Brien century. On that occasion O’Brien hammered 113 from only 63 balls to see the Irish over the line.
