Heino Kuhn Century Keeps Titans In Touch

Heino Kuhn batted out the whole of day two to keep the Titans on track to match the Highveld Lions’ first innings total in the Sunfoil Series match in Benoni on Saturday.  Kuhn started the day unbeaten on seven and ended it on 182 not out, taking The Unlimited Titans to 374/4 in response to the Lions’ 485/7 declared.   Just 11 wickets have therefore fallen over the course of the first three days, meaning it will take a remarkable final day for the game not to end in a draw.

Rain had its say on the first two days of the game, but a full day’s play was possible on Saturday and it equated to a long 104 overs in the field for the bizhub Highveld Lions.  Kuhn extended his opening partnership with Jacques Rudolph to 79 before the left-hander was trapped lbw by Dale Deeb for 39, and after Henry Davids had fallen cheaply, the centurion shared big stands with Cobus Pienaar and Roelof Van Der Merwe.  Kuhn added 147 for the third wicket with Pienaar (66), who was eventually caught behind off the bowling of Vusumuzi Mazibuko, and then put on 146 with Van Der Merwe (66).

The middle-order batsman was finally dismissed by Deeb in the penultimate over of the day, and so Qaasim Adams accompanied Kuhn to stumps.  Kuhn’s knock was his second big hundred in three games, and exhibited great patience as it spanned 357 balls (17x4s, 1×6) and seven hours.
