Hatem Ben Arfa and Newcastle United have officially parted ways. The Frenchman’s contract at St James’ Park was terminated with immediate effect on Sunday after reaching a mutual agreement.
In a statement, the Magpies wished Ben Arfa all the best for his future. The attacking midfielder has spent the first half of the season on loan at Hull City. In total, he made 76 appearances for the Toon, scoring 13 goals. Previously he played at Marseille and Lyon.
The 27-year old has been described as “one of the best-rated talents in France”, but has been criticised by the media and players alike for lacking discipline.
