Ghana are into the Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals after thrashing Guinea 3-0 at the Estadio de Malabo on Sunday. The Black stars went ahead in the fourth minute after a great back-heel from Andre Ayew and Christian Atsu slotted the ball inside the net to put them 1-0 up. After the 15th minute the Ghanaians were still in front by 1-0 as their West African rivals were trying to get back in the game but, in the 25th minute the four-time champions were awarded a free kick.
Luckily for Sylli Nacionale Jonathan Mensah’s shot went over the bar as it was still 1-0. Asamoah Gyan had a good chance but his shot lacked power as it went to Moussa Yattara’s hand. Then just before half-time Bassaima Sankho’s backpass met Kwesi Appiah as he scored the second goal in the 44th minute to send Avram Grant’s side to half-time 2-0 up.
In the second half Guinea were searching for an early goal but Ghana kept them at bay as they were still no shot on target from the Guineans as the clock reached the hour-mark. Atsu scored a screamer in the 60th minute as he handed the Black Stars a killer third and also his brace. After the 75th minute the Ghanaians were simply playing position football to protect their led.
Atsu was replaced by Frank Acheampong in the 79th minute. In the 90th minute Guinea’s goalkeeper was sent off after a dangerous tackle on Gyan but Grant’s men managed to hold on as they powered their way into the final four.
