Gerrard Tastes Bitter Send Off

Steven Gerrard had a bitter send off as Crystal Palace beat Liverpool 3-1 at Anfield in an entertaining English Premier League encounter on Saturday as the skipper played his last game at the venue.  The home side was the first to attack and almost took the lead early in the match.  In the 14th minute, Gerrard delivered a superb free kick to find Martin Skrtel whose header went over the bar.

The Reds continued to put the visitors under siege and finally found their goal in the 25th minute.  Adam Lallana took his chance following a defensive error and buried it.  Alan Pardew’s men always looked like scoring when going forward, but couldn’t break the red wall.

The Eagles finally found the back of the net in the 43rd minute when Jason Puncheon leveled matters to make it 1-1 at the break.  Brendan Rodgers’ side saw his side taking control of the match early on in the second stanza.  Jordon Ibe had the ball falling kindly for him in the 48th minute but hit the side netting.

Wilfried Zaha popped up at the far post in the 59th minute to put his side in front.  The 23-year old had only been on the pitch for 22 seconds.  The home side found themselves on the back foot and failing to gel in front of goal.  Gerrard was substituted in the 86th minute before Palace put the final nail in the coffin.

In the 91st minute Glenn Murray feasted on a rebound to make it 3-1 after Simon Mignolet had saved the penalty.  The Reds were not in it for the most part of the game and were punished.
