Germany And The USA Progress To FIFA World Cup Second Round

Arena Pernambuco hosted Germany as they took on the United States of America with both teams eyeing a Second Round spot at the 2014 FIFA World Cup™.  The Group F encounter ended with the United States losing by a goal to nothing but progressing nevertheless.  A slow start to the game ensued as the first half was not what was expected from the former champions as it ended with not much action or goals.

The first 45 minutes ended with 0-0.  The second half saw Miroslav Klose coming on as a substitute for Lukas Podolski with hopes of changing the score.  Klose headed to the goal post shortly after coming on but his header went wide.

A goal followed shortly from the Germans in the 54th minute.  Thomas Muller found the back of the net with a right-footed shot from outside the box which put his team in the lead.  A substitution made by the USA saw Alejandro Bedoya coming in for Bard Davis.

Jermaine Jones won a free kick for the US but nothing came of it.  A corner conceded by Philipp Lahm also made no change to the score board.  The game was then delayed because of an injury to Jones to add to the drama.

A substitution made by Joachim Low saw Mario Gotze replacing Bastian Schweinsteiger.  Mesut Ozil assisted Benedikt Howedes who right-footed the shot from outside the box but was saved.  Ozil was replaced by Andre Schurrle for Germany in the 88th minute with the Americans nervously keeping an eye on Ghana’s encounter against Portugal.

The final score ended 1-0 to Germany with both teams went through to the round of 16.
