Fulham will play their football in the English Championship after a 4-1 annihilation at the hands of Stoke City on Saturday at the Brittania Stadium. The Cottagers surrendered their Premier League status after Sunderland had shocked Manchester United at Old Trafford. After 13 years in the top-flight the London Club will now play in England’s second-tier next season.
This is Felix Magath’s first relegation in his long and successful career with nine different clubs. Stoke’s Peter Odemwingie scored the first goal of the match which was his sixth goal since he moved from Cardiff City, who were also relegated on the day after going down 3-0 to Newcastle United. The second goal was scored by Marko Arnautovic and Oussama Assaidi scored the third one.
It was Assaidi’s first time in the starting line-up for the Potters in almost three months after he suffered a knee injury. Kieran
Richardson tried to save Fulham’s sinking ship but substitute Jon Walters managed to score the fourth goal which buried Fulham’s hope. Mark Hughes’ side was dominant in this game and their win did not come as a surprise.
After the game Magath said, “”It was the worst game since I have been here today because it was the only game that we had no chance from the beginning. For me, as I told you before, the team was not made for a relegation fight and so was the performance today.”
