Leicester City captain Wes Morgan struck early to lead his side to a 1-0 victory over Southampton in their English Premier League encounter at the King Power Stadium on Sunday. The log leaders opened the scoring in the opening seven minutes when Christian Fuchs swung in a good ball that was netted by Morgan to hand them the early lead. However from then on the Saints looked to have the better run of play as they dominated the possession and had some notable chances through Sadio Mane who was clear on goal with just Kasper Schmeichel to beat however he was denied at the last minute by Danny Simpson.
Graziano Pelle provided Mane with the ball earlier and later had a chance of his own with a header from a tight angle and a Jose Fonte long range effort was just tipped over by Schmeichel. In the second stanza the home side looked to step up their efforts to net a second and they did have a number of opportunities, none more so than a Simpson sitter at the far post that would have rewarded the Foxes’ brilliant build up but he could only manage to send it straight at the keeper. Despite the many attempts by Ronald Koeman’s men, Claudio Ranieri’s outfit held on to their solitary goal to see themselves extend their lead at the top of the table to seven points with six games to go.
