The individuals who were arrested by the police on Saturday during the 2014/15 MTN8 final in Durban appeared in Durban Magistrate Court yesterday facing various charges including illegal sale of tickets and pitch invasion. The PSL has applauded this move and praised the work of the South African Police Service (SAPS). The four, Lungisane Funeka, Vusi Sizane, Bongani Maphanga and Willie Annes, were detained by police following a crackdown ahead and during the MTN8 final.
Maphanga, Sizane and Annes are charged with illegal sale of tickets while Funeka is facing charges relating to trying to invade the pitch during the game. PSL Head of Safety and Security, Phillip Masimong said, “We are impressed with the work and assistance of the South African Police Service and I would like to thank their leadership and those working on the ground for ensuring that the 2014/15 MTN8 final was safe. Masimong warned that the PSL’s campaign to root out counterfeit tickets will intensify. We are going to be in the lookout at every game to ensure that our events are safe and crime free.”
