A brace from Ricardo Quaresma helped FC Porto stun Bayern Munich 3-1 in the Uefa Champions League at the Estadio do Dragao on Wednesday. The majority of Pundits had Bayern as heavy favourites for this tie but as early the third minute the home supporters began to sense an upset was brewing. Pep Guardiola’s side was caught playing a high-line and Jackson Martinez robbed Xabi Alonso of possession before he was brought down inside the area by Manuel Neuer.
Quaresma stepped up and rifled the penalty into the bottom left-hand corner. Things got even better for the Portuguese outfit as seven minutes later Quaresma grabbed his second. Again Julen Lopetegui’s men punished the Bavarians’ high line and this time Dante was caught in possession allowing Quaresma to race past him and coolly slot his shot past Neuer.
Bayern did manage to pull a goal back before half-time through Thiago Alcantara and looked set to stage a comeback in the second-half. Porto had other ideas though and played brilliantly in the second-half. They defended resolutely when the German side pushed forward before putting them under an incredible amount of pressure at the other end.
The third goal they scored through Martinez was nothing less than they deserved as they held on to claim an outstanding 3-1 victory and set up a mouth-watering second-leg clash.
