Fabulous Fiji Wins In Hong Kong

Fiji have overcome their great rivals New Zealand 21-7 to retain the Hong Kong Sevens and strengthen their lead at the top of the World Rugby Sevens Series 2015-16.  Pita Ahki’s try gave New Zealand an early 7-0 lead but Jerry Tuwai levelled before the break and tries by Kitione Taliga andPlayer of the Final Semi Kunatani clinched a fine victory.  South Africa edged Australia to finish third, England beat USA to take the plate, Argentina beat Scotland to the bowl and Russia overcame Canada to lift the shield.

Japan beat Hong Kong to seal a place on the 2016-17 Series.  The Brave Blossoms overcame the stubborn resistance of inspired hosts Hong Kong to come from behind and win a dramatic series qualifier final 24-14 and book their core team place on all 10 rounds of the World Rugby Sevens Series 2016-17.  Japan will replace the bottom-ranked of the current core team sides at the end of this season in London – currently Portugal.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong Cup winners Fiji head up pool A and will face England, Samoa and Portugal, while Hong Kong’s losing finalists New Zealand will play USA, France and Canada.  In pool C South Africa will play Kenya, Scotland and Russia and in the fourth of the pools Australia will face Wales, Argentina and Japan.
