Everton’s excellent form at Goodison Park on Sunday ensured a thumping 3-0 win over Newcastle United in the English Premier League. The game started with an early corner for Newcastle conceded by Antolin Alcaraz. A goal attempt from Yoan Gouffran was saved as he right footed the ball from the centre of the box.
Mike Williamson also tried his luck from close range but his attempt was blocked. The pressure kept on coming from the Magpies as Daryl Janmaat’s right footed shot was blocked. A header from Emmanuel Riviere was saved after getting an assist from Gabriel Obertan.
The Toffees finally took the ball into their attacking half. Romelu Lukaku visited the post twice but both goal attempts were saved. A goal came in the 20th minute when James McCarthy found an opening with his right footed shot. Ryan Taylor was given a yellow card for a bad foul before the first half ended with the hosts in a 1-0 lead.
As the second 45 minutes started Taylor won a free kick after a foul by Darron Gibson. Gouffran conceded a foul in the penalty area and Lukaku converted the penalty making it 2-0 for the home side. After a long play of back and forth the last minute saw Ross Barkley fire in a last and final shot for Roberto Martinez’s side.
The game ended 3-0 in favour of the Merseysiders.
