Free State Stars and SuperSport United played out a goalless drawn game at Goble Park in Bethlehem on Sunday In the Absa Premiership. It was a game of few chances and was more about goalkeeping heroism with both keepers with Daouda Diakité and Rowen Williams pulling off some stunning saves to keep clean sheets. It was a fairly balanced game from the start.
Ernst Middendorp was seeking to revive his side which lost heavily at home to Mamelodi Sundowns in the Telkom Knockout. It was Gordon Igesund’s charges who went in search of the opener when Dove Wome fired wide and Thuso Phala let fly a grounder into the waiting arms of Diakité. Williams also pulled off a stunner from a free kick on the edge of the box in the 36th minute.
Matsatsantsa, who have also been on a poor run of form in this campaign, were dominating the game but the once leaky defence of Ea Lla Koto led by skipper Paulus Masehe held firm until the end of the first half. The second stanza started on a positive note for both teams as they searched for the opener but it proved futile. Jeremy Brockie also fired on target from close range but Diakité manned his sticks with agility.
Ultimatley both sides had to settle for a point a piece and a clean sheet.
