Dolphins Aim To Strengthen Mental Resolve

The Dolphins need to attain the right frame of mind on a more consistent basis if they are to overcome their indifferent form and finish in the top three of the Ram Slam  T20, captain Morne Van Wyk believes.  The Sunfoil Dolphins have been the Jekyll and Hyde side of the competition thus far, achieving two of the biggest runs victories but also being bowled out for one of the lowest scores.  Such inconsistency has left them in fourth place on the table, five points behind the Knights in third, and Van Wyk confirmed they had been speaking about the mental side of the game ahead of Wednesday’s televised encounter with The Unlimited Titans in Benoni.

“I’d personally like to score a few more runs because that will give us the foundation to build on, but we’ve also been in situations with bat and ball where we could have finished the opposition off and we’ve let the game meander on.  I know we’ve got the skill levels, I think it’s just a case of keeping the right mental attitude and the right frame of mind,” said Van Wyk.  The Titans have juggled their side after losing their opening five matches to give fringe players such as wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen, offspinner Eden Links and seamer Junior Dala a run, and have gone on to record a victory and a tie.  Coach Rob Walter explained that the changes were not about blooding younger players with a view to the future, but trying to find a more successful side in the present.

“A group of players were given an opportunity in the first five games and we weren’t able to win, so it only stands to reason that we need to give some other guys the same opportunity and see what other combinations we can come up with,” he said.  The game starts at 18:00 and will be shown live on SuperSport 2.  Since the match is televised, fans attending can participate in the “Win Your Share of a Million competition” by taking a one-handed clean catch.

This competition is open to anybody over the age of 18 and is for South African Citizens only.  Full Terms and conditions for the competition can be found at
