Dikwena The Brightest Star

Platinum  Stars  needed   stoppage  time  magic  from  Mogakolodi  Ngele  to  beat  Ea  Lla  Koto  1-0  to  go  fifth on the Absa Premiership table on Sunday.  Royal  Bafokeng  was  set  to  witness  which  star  would  shine  the  brightest  between  Platinum  Stars  and  Free  State  Stars  when  the  two  sides  locked  horns  in Phokeng near Rustenburg.

The  visitors  had  the  first  real  chance  at  goal.  In  the  19th  minute  Danny  Venter  sliced  past  Dikwena’s  defence  to  whip  in  a  brilliant  cross  but  none of  his  teammates  managed  to  connect  with  the  ball.  Ea  Lla  Koto  were  at  it  again  in  the  43rd  minute when  Richard  Henyekane  was  one  on  one  with  Siyabonga  Mpotshane  but  opted  to  go  for  power  when  placing  the  ball  would  have  been  a  better  option.  The  score  sheet  remained  unchanged  heading  to  the  second  half.

The first  real  chance  at  goal  in  the  second  stanza  came  in  the  57th  minute  when  Tshepo  Motsoeneng  was  forced  in to  a  brilliant  save  to  parry  S’phelele  Mthembu’s  powerful  shot.  In  the  65th  minute,  Mthembu  forced  his  way  to  get  behind  Ea  Lla  Koto’s  defence  to  set  up  substitute  Mogakolodi  Ngele  who  couldn’t  capitalise  on  the  chance.

The  boys  from  Bethlehem  did  find  the  back  of  the  net  in  the  84th  minute  through  Paulus  Masehe,  however  he  was  ruled  offside. When  it  seemed  both  sides  were  going to have to settle  for  a  goalless  draw,  Robert  Ng’ambi  whipped  in  a  cross  which  found  Mthembu  who  shielded  the  ball  and  set  up  Ngele  who  slotted  home  to hand  Dikwena  all three  points.
