Remarkable half-centuries from Mayank Agarwal and Yuvraj Singh helped steer the Delhi Daredevils to victory with a 5 wicket win over the Kings XI Punjab at the Masharashtra Cricket Stadium on Wednesday in the Indian Premier League. Kings XI won the toss and elected to bat first and had 33 runs on the board before the first wicket fell, as Murali Vijay (19) was dismissed by JP Duminy in the fifth over. Virender Sehwag (47) and Wriddhiman Saha were the new men at the crease and produced a decent partnership before the second wicket fell when Saha (39) was dismissed by Amit Mishra as the Daredevils were 104/2.
It was a great bowling display by the visitors, but Imran Tahir was the pick of the bowlers as he dismissed Axar Patel, George Bailey, and Glenn Maxwell as the hosts ended up with 165/7 in their 20 overs. The Punjabis’ chase got off to a bad start as Sandeep Sharma (6) was dismissed by Shreyas Iyer after 2.5 overs. It got worse for the Daredevils as Duminy was ran out for 21 by Patel as Delhi were 53/2.
Agarwal (68) and Yuvraj (55) put on a formidable partnership before they were sent packing by Anureet Singh’s superb bowling. Kedar Jadhav (3) cameoed for Delhi but was dismissed by Patel as Gary Kirsten’s men won by 5 wickets.
