England’s Danny Willett hit a six-under 66 on Sunday to overtake the overnight leaders and land his maiden Nedbank Golf Challenge title at Sun City. Willett’s five birdies arrived at the second, third and fifth, to announce his intent, as well as the tenth, fourteenth and seventeenth to open up a gap at the Gary Player Country Club. Overnight leader Luke Donald hit a one-over 73 to finish six shots adrift of his countryman.
First round leader Ross Fisher finished second; four shots behind Willett. There would be no South African victory for the seventh year running. The best-placed golfer from South Africa were Tim Clark and Louis Oosthuizen who found themselves all the way down in a tie for seventh at three-under for the tournament.
Willett bagged US$1.25 million (R14.22 million) for his efforts over the four days.
