Danny Welbeck scored his first ever senior career hat-trick as Arsenal thrashed Galatasaray 4-1 to record their first win of the competition in their Group D encounter in the Champions League on Wednesday. The Gunners got off to a good start and opened their account in the 21st minute through Welbeck who latched on to an Alexis Sanchez pass to put his side ahead. The home side went on to double their lead eight minutes later through Welbeck once again.
The North Londoners had the best of the chances and looked likely to get another, which they did. This time it was Sanchez who found a Mesut Ozil pass and cut inside to slot one in passed Fernando Muslera to put them 3-0 up as they headed into the half-time break. In the second half Welbeck went on to record his first hat-trick in an Arsenal shirt as they extended their lead to 4-1.
However the Turks would get a chance for a goal when Wojciech Szczesny was shown a straight red and the visitors were awarded a penalty. David Ospina was brought on and his first job was to defend a Burak Yilmaz penalty. The Colombian shotstopper was not able to do so as Yilmaz scored a consolation goal for his side.
This motivated them to put some pressure on their opponents which Wesley Sneijder did as he forced the substitute keeper to to dive low to his right with a long range effort. However it was a little too late for the Turkish side as they were beaten 4-1 by their English opponents.
