Off-spinner Dane Piedt has returned to fitness for the Cape Cobras and could come straight into the side for Saturday’s Sunfoil Series clash against the Knights at Boland Park. Piedt injured his shoulder during a Champions League T20 match in India in September, and only recently returned to club cricket. However, now that he has attained match fitness the Nashua Cape Cobras will need to make some tough decisions – particularly after left-arm spinner George Linde took seven wickets in the defeat to the Lions.
“That is a headache on its own because our young spinner, George Linde, is bowling very well. But Dane Piedt is a Proteas player and he might just get the nod. Justin Kemp has also recovered from injury so we’ve got a couple of options – we’ll just have to see what the right combinations are for the conditions,” captain Justin Ontong said. Rory Kleinveldt is expected to recover from the tonsillitis that rendered him unable to bowl in the second innings against the bizhub Highveld Lions. Meanwhile, the Chevrolet Knights have called up Free State batsman Michael Erlank on the back of his unbeaten 163 against Namibia, while Corne Dry returns to the squad in place of Duanne Olivier, who injured his shoulder in the field during last week’s loss to the Titans.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Letlotlo Sesele will make his debut for the Knights, while seamer Tumi Masekela is likely to drop out as the bowling attack is rejigged. Captain Werner Coetsee expects his side to have overcome the Ram Slam T20 hangover that affected the Knights in their last outing. “We were very slow to get into the game – we almost took four innings to get back to our four-day disciplines and skills, which may have been because of the quick turnaround in format,” he said.
