Saturday morning saw the Crusaders take the Cheetahs to the cleaners 57-14 at AMI Stadium. The seventh minute of the game saw Kieron Fonotia being given a yellow card and sent to the sin bin for taking out Willie Le Roux in the air. The first try of the game came in the 19th minute when Jordan Taufua reached out for the line.
A conversion by Dan Carter soon followed putting the Saders in a 7-0 lead. The Cheetahs came back into the game when Francois Venter scored a try. A conversion followed by Joe Pietersen which made it even at 7-7.
Two minutes later the Free State franchise scored yet another try – this time it came from Johann Sadie. A conversion followed shorly after from Pietersen which saw them double their points and take the lead. A penalty for the hosts saw them close the gap.
The first half ended 14-10 to the visitors. The first 10 minutes of the second half saw Le Roux shown a yellow card for a high tackle on Nemani Nadolo. The Canterbury franchise managed to score a try from a good scrum followed by a conversion by Carter.
They didn’t hold back as they headed to the tryline again. Israel Dagg scored the try this time and a conversion followed by Carter. Things started looking up for the home side as they kept the tries coming.
The game finally ended as Todd Blackadder’s boys had streched the gap beyond a comeback. The match ended with the Bloemfontein boys going down emphatically.
