Oscar De La Hoya, promoter and president of Golden Boy Promotions, trusts that the card starring WBC middleweight champion, Miguel Cotto, against Saul Alvarez will be a total success. De La Hoya says: ‘Everything is sold out at the Mandalay Bay. The closed circuit has great sales, better than expected. I think this fight will be the most anticipated of the year. The PPV numbers are also great, they are above a million and a half of sales now.’ If this mark remains, it would be the second highest of Canelo’s career.
The Mexican’s number one was when he faced Floyd Mayweather when they reached two million homes. Cotto also has a history of great Pay-Per-View numbers. The duel against Mayweather in 2013 passed 1.5 million sales. The other time he was able to pass the million mark was for his clash with Manny Pacquiao in 2009.
De La Hoya says: ‘This event is important for all the boxing world, for all fans and I am not seeing this fight as if my life were at stake. Against Alvarez, we want to offer to the people the best possible (sic). Both fighters are well prepared and we are sure we will have a great fight.’
