The Absa Premiership match between Kaizer Chiefs and Jomo Cosmos at Olen Park in Potchefstroom ended in a goalless draw on Tuesday. Both sides produced chances but failed to convert them in a very intense match. The defending champions Amakhosi ruled the first half, creating plenty of chances, the most significant being Edward Manqele putting the ball into the back of the net, but being ruled offside as the flag went up a few seconds later.
Chiefs continued to create chances through set pieces but Cosmos had a rock solid defence. Charlton Mashumba hit the side netting in what was Ezenkosi’s closest chance of scoring in the first half. Manqele came close again in the beginning of the second stanza when his low shot missed the goal by a few inches.
The defending champions continued to create chances and showed the hunger to score, dominating possession especially in the midfield. Mashumba continued to challenge Reyaad Pieterse in goal but Pieterse saved his closest attempts. The closest chance of a goal in the match came in the last five minutes when goalkeepers Pieterse and Sherwyn Naicker made impeccable saves to keep the strikers at bay.
Steve Komphela’s team is fifth in the league standings and keeps its position as Jomo Sono’s side moves up one position to 14th .
