Chippa United scored a brace as they defeated Polokwane City in their Absa Premiership encounter at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Friday. Some early indiscipline from both sides set the stage for the match and Rise and Shine was dealt an early blow as Gert Barends was sent off in the 31st minute for a dangerous late tackle on Nkosinathi Mthiyane. On the stroke of half-time the Chilli Boys capitalised on their one-man advantage as Lerato Manzini sent a right footed finish into the net to grab a 1-0 lead.
The hosts picked up where they left off doubling their lead through Aristide Bance who beat George Chigova with a right footed attempt. Roger Sikhakhane’s side was in the ascendancy as they pressurised their opponents with wave after wave of attack. The men from Polokwane on the other hand were finding it difficult to cope with the pressure as they made many mistakes and errors on defence and attack.
Despite being on the back foot the visitors did grad a consolation goal from Punch Masenamela who nodded home in stoppage time but it was too little too late. The result sees United move up into seventh place on seven points and Kosta Papic’s players positioned in 13th on the league log.
