Chiefs Stay In Title Race

Kaizer Chiefs beat Polokwane City 2-0 to stay within touching distance of log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns in their Absa Premiership match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday.  Chiefs opened the scoring in the ninth minute through a tap in from the six yard box by George Lebese.  Rise and Shine tried to hit back straight away but the Chiefs defence stood firm.

Both sides had chances that went astray and entered into the half time break with Amakhosi leading 1-0.  In the second half it was one way traffic with the men from Soweto having the bulk of the possession but it was to no avail.  Late in the half the Glamour Boys finally found a way through when the man of the match George Maluleka linked up with Katlego Mphela to see their side to a 2-0 victory.

Maluleka and Lebese’s strikes proved enough to hand Stuart Baxters’s side all three points in Limpopo and stay in touch at the summit of the league table.  This result sees Chiefs remain three points behind the log leaders with a game in hand.  Crucially, goal difference is now in Baxter’s favour with time running out.
