Chiefs Held By Polokwane

Kaizer Chiefs and Polokwane City played out to a 1-1 draw in their Absa Premier ship encounter at the FNB stadium on Tuesday.  An action packed first half saw both sides come close to opening their account on a number of occasions.  The hosts had a total of eight shots at goal with only one on target and their opponents had seven with two on target.

The breakthrough did come for the visitors in the 29th minute through Thobani Mncwango headed home giving his side a 1-0 lead.  However five minutes later their hosts were level when Siphiwe Tshabalala delivered a corner from the right byline which found Eric Mathoho who beat George Chigova.  In the closing stages of the half both sides looked to sneak ahead however neither was able to break the deadlock with the half ending all square.

In the second stanza the Glamour Boys added to their shots tally recording a further four more attempts with one of them on target.  They looked to be applying the pressure on Rise and Shine in an attempt to seal a victory.  Julio Leal’s lads were finding it difficult to stand up to the pressure as they did not manage any more shots on target for the rest of the game and due to the frustration found two more players added to the referees’ book for unnecessary fouls.

After a few injury delays there was a total of seven minutes additional time and Amakhosi continued to push for the winner but they were not able to beat man of the match Chigova in goal as the game ended 1-1.  The result sees Chiefs remain in third with City in 13th place.
