The Chiefs defeated the Bulls 34-20 in their Super Rugby encounter in Rotorua on Friday. The Waikato franchise drew first blood with a penalty from Damian McKenzie. The visitors raced ahead with tries from Jan Serfontein and Bjorn Basson and a Handre Pollard penalty.
However the home side clawed back to draw level 15-15 at the half-time break. In the second stanza the Hamilton outfit took control and took the lead through a brace from Augustine Pulu. The young flyhalf added the extras as they claimed their bonus point try.
In the closing stages Frans Ludeke’s men got their third try when Lappies Labuschagne powered over the line but the conversion was missed. To add further insult to injury just when the men in blue felt like they could get something out of this match they were denied a losing bonus point as Tim Nanai-Williams went over for his first try of the night after the hooter to seal a comfortable 14-point triumph.
