Chennai Edge Delhi

Ashish Nehra’s wonderful 3/25 helped Chennai Super Kings win by one run against Delhi Daredevils at Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday in the Indian Premier League (IPL).  Delhi won the toss and put the Super Kings to bat first.   MS Dhoni’s men had 20 runs on the board before the first wicket fell, Brendon McCullum (4) taken by Nathan Coultier-Nile (3/28).

The second wicket, Suresh Raina, also taken by Nile, fell for only four additional runs.  Dwayne Smith and Faf Du Plessis built a partnership of 30 runs before Smith (34) was taken out by Imran Tahir.  Coulter-Nile took three wickets in the end; Dhoni, McCullum and Raina while Dominic Joseph, Tahir, Amit Mishra and JP Duminy shared spoils of one wicket each.

The hosts ended with 150/7 in 20 overs.  With a target of 15 Duminy’s men were not successful in their chase.  Albie Morkel put in a good game, he managed to hit 73 runs from 55 balls.

The first wicket to fall was CM Gautim (4) taken by Nehra for only 15.  Nehra took two other wickets in a short space of time before Morkel gave Duminy’s men hope that they might win.  They would need only six runs from one ball but he only managed a four as they fell short by just one run.

In every game that these two teams have played, Chennai have always dominated with most wins and this was just one of those games.
