Chelsea outplayed Sporting Libson and won 1-0 in a Uefa Champions League clash on Tuesday night. Diego Costa looked for an early goal with a clear shot at target but he was denied by a great save from Rui Patricio. Nemanja Matic put the visitors in the lead with a back post header in the 34th minute. Sporting almost gained a penalty but Tim Cahill blocked Adrien Silva’s shot with his chest stomach.
Joao Mario opened the referee’s book with a yellow card after a trip on Costa towards the halfway line. The hosts came back strongly in the second half looking for an equaliser but nothing reached the target. Luis Nani went close to get an equalizer for the home side but his effort ran into the side-netting.
Jose Mourinho recorded his first away win against Portuguese opposition as the Blues left Lisbon with all three points.
