Chelsea dealt Liverpool’s English Premier League title hopes a blow on Sunday with a 2-0 win at Anfield. So many attempts were missed by Liverpool as they tried to open the scoring but Chelsea keeper Mark Schwarzer was at his best as he stopped every goal attempt from entering his goals. In the 14th minute a corner by Luis Suarez fell to Joe Allen but it was stopped on the line by Ashley Cole, returned to Suarez who crossed it again to Mamadou Sakho who sent his shot high and mighty.
In the 36th minute Frank Lampard thought he could score a goal but Simon Mignolet punched the ball right out of the goal posts. The writing was on the wall as it was not much longer before Demba Ba netted the opening goal to hand Chelsea a one-nil half-time lead.
Reds captain Steven Gerrard started the second half of the game with a shot but his attempt did not have enough power as it fell into the keeper’s hands. Willian joined his teammates as a second half substitute when he replaced Mohamed Salah. The hosts tried their best to score but Blues’s keeper Schwarzer was in top form as he killed every attempt made by Brendan Rodgers’ side.
Jose Mourinho’s troops were headed for all three points before Willian passed the ball to Fernando Torres in the 90th minute. The Spaniard made a run to goal before passing back to the Brazilian who ended the match and secured a vital win for the visitors who are right back in the race for the Premier League title.
