Bidvest Wits lost 2-1 to Bloemfontein Celtic at the Petrus Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein on Sunday in the Absa Premiership. This loss means the Clever Boys are four points behind league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns on the league standings. From the start of the game, Siwelele were up for the challenge starting the first 10 minutes well.
Despite all this Wits were the first team to make attempts on goal with an early chance by Elias Pelembe who took a long-range shot. Much of the first half was controlled by the visitors. In the 35th minute Gavin Hunt’s men landed on the scoreboard first when Pelembe took a long range effort and this time it found the back of the net.
Five minutes later he almost capitalised again when his right foot shot from a tight angle struck the post. Five minutes into the second half Celtic were able to equalise when Lerato Lamola beat keeper Moeneeb Josephs. Lamola spotted an unmarked Thapelo Morena who lightly tapped the ball into an empty net.
The next 20 minutes of the game were fairly quiet with few chances created but in the 64th minute Phunya Sele Sele came close to making it two when Lyle Lakay volleyed the ball wide. After much attacking and making Wits’ defence work, in the 92nd minute Serame Letsoaka’s lads were awarded a penalty after Josephs took down Lamola in the penalty area and was lucky enough to receive only a yellow card. Musa Nyatam took the penalty and converted it with ease.
It was heartbreak for Wits who will entertain Platinum Stars on Wednesday evening well Letsoaka’s lot will be hosting SuperSport.
