Bloemfontein Celtic beat AmaZulu 3-0 at the Free State Stadium on Sunday afternoon in an Absa Premiership clash. Both teams struggled in the first 15 minutes of the game but Musa Nyatama had a shot in the 17th minute but missed the target. Celtic were awarded a free kick but Nyatama failed to trouble Energy Murambadoro as the score was still 0-0 after 21 minutes.
Mbulelo Mabizela was red carded in the 29th minute after using his elbow to a Phunya Sele Sele defender as they were down to ten man. In the 32nd minute Clifford Mulenga’s shot came off the cross bar and Lerato Lamola tapped in as they took a 1-0 lead. Usuthu were awarded a free kick but could not get back into the match when Marc Van Heerden’s shot went over the bar.
The home side finished the first half strongly as they were in front by 1-0. In the second half matters worsened for the visitors as Carlington Nyadombo scored an own goal from a low cross by Dhatelo Morena as the home side went 2-0 up. In the 55th minute the hosts were awarded a free kick and Keegan Ritchie’s shot hit the defender’s arm inside the box.
Referee Victor Gomes awarded the home side a penalty and Lamola scored his second goal of the afternoon in the 58th minute, making no mistake after Van Heerden was shown a yellow card. The home side continued to dominate as the visitors struggled against Celtic’s pace as they looked flat. At the final whistle it was a 3-0 thrashing.
