Petra Kvitova wasted no time in booking her Wimbledon Ladies’ Singles Third Round place on Thursday. The defending champion crushed Kurumi Nara 6-2, 6-0 in 58 minutes on Court 1. The Czech served 10 aces and hit 23 winners en route to booking a match against Jelena Jankovic.
Angelique Kerber is through to the Wimbledon Ladies’ Singles Third Round after a 7-5, 6-2 victory against Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. Kerber won 79% of her first serve points and hit 24 winners along the way and committed just six unforced errors in her 72 minutes on Court 18. The German 10th seed will play Garbine Muguruza next.
Eight seed Ekaterina Makarova was not as fortunate as she crashed out at the hands of Magdalena Rybarikova 6-2, 7-5. After dominating the opening set the Slovak was made to work a little harder second time around but still won the day. The 26-year old did the business in 74 minutes to send the third top 10 seed packing at SW19 this year.
Caroline Wozniacki is also through to the Third Round after a 6-1, 7-6 triumph over Denisa Allertova on Thursday. Wozniacki was up 5-1 but after dropping serve had to wait a while longer to kill off the contest. The Court 12 battle lasted 85 minutes and Allertova almost handed it to her opponent with 27 unforced errors.
The 24-year old will face Camila Giorgi next.
