Cape Verde had to share the points with Democratic Republic of Congo following a 0-0 Africa Cup of Nations draw at Nuevo Estadio de Ebebiyin on Thursday night. The Cabo Verdeans had an early attempt at goal but Kuca’s right footed shot went over the top right corner in the fifth minute of the game. In the eighth minute Ryan Mendes won a free kick for the Blue Sharks in the attacking half but Lema Mebidi’s header missed to the right.
The DRC started to be more aggressive, but in the 20th minute they suffered a set back as their captain Youssuff Mulumbu was stretchered off due to a hamstring injury and he was replaced by Nelson Munganga. The islanders’ defence looked solid and well organised throughout. At half-time the match was tentatively poised at 0-0.
In the second half both teams were looking to be more clinical in front of goal, desperately searching for the vital three points. There were clear cut chances for both sides but they just could not capitalise as Chancel Mbemba’s right footed shot outside the box went wide in the 84th minute. The second half ended with Cape Verde and the Leopards still goalless.
