Burnley has held 10-man Chelsea to a 1-1 English Premier League draw at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. It took 13 minutes for the Blues to take the lead after Eden Hazard received the ball outside the right-hand side of the area before moving in and beating three defenders, including one twice, to set up Branislav Ivanovic, who virtually tapped home. The hosts bossed the match for the better parts but it was still just 1-0 at the half-time break.
The second stanza saw more dominance from the home side but despite several chances, they could not add to their lead as they appeared lethargic at times. The match turned on its head when Nemanja Matic was red-carded in the 70th minute for retaliation. Matic was the victim of a high tackle from Ashley Barnes, with both feet off the ground.
Jose Mourinho reacted by taking Oscar off for Ramires. The Clarets were level with 10 minutes to play when Ben Mee took advantage of a free header at the far post from a corner. Mourinho was planning on shutting up shop by bringing on Gary Cahill for Diego Costa but instead sent Didier Drogba on in a desperate attempt to win the three points.
It proved an impotent move as Sean Dyche’s side left London with a vital point in their relegation battle.
