The Bulls beat the Cheetahs 23-18 at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria on Saturday night in an all-South African Super Rugby derby. The two sides were looking to claim bragging rights and push for a positive Super Rugby season. Two minutes into the encounter the Free State side was smiling thanks to a superb penalty by Neil Marais.
Three minutes later, the match was level following a Tian Schoeman penalty. From then on, the Bulls dominated proceedings and found themselves leading 20-10 at the break thanks to tries from RG Snyman, Jason Jenkins and Jamba Ulengo. Franco Smith’s side crossed the line courtesy of Sergeal Petersen.
The second stanza started off as did the first with Marais slotting a penalty. In the 50th minute, the visitors scored another try through Torsten Van Jaarsveld to cut the deficit to just two points. The second stanza proved to be fruitless as the two sides only managed to increase their scores by just a small margin. The encounter ended 23-18 in favour of the home side as they continued their good form in the competition so far.
