The Bulls charged to a 39-20 Vodacom Super Rugby victory on Saturday against the Cheetahs at the Free State Stadium. Springbok flyhalf Handre Pollard had a great game and inspired the Tshwane-based outfit to the victory. Pollard kicked five penalties, a drop kick, two conversions and scored a try too to ensure a great day for the three-time champions.
The first half was dominated by Frans Ludeke’s lads but it was a different story in the second half as the home side was trying to get back into the game. It proved to be hard for Bloemfontein boys, trying to force their opponents out of their red zone. The home side tried to use several counters as they were 23-6 down at half-time and always chasing.
Pollard proved to be the star of the day, scoring the first try of the day and Bjorn Basson also went over for the visitors before the break. The side from the capital went over for a third time in the 70th minute courtesy of Jan Serfontein. Although the Bulls scored just three tries, it was Pollard’s boot that kept them comfortably ahead of the hosts.
Second half tries by Raymond Rhule and Boom Prinsloo brought Naka Drotske’s team back into the match but the damage had already been done as the Bulls ran out winners on the night.
