Brazil 2014: Group C

With just six days to go to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, we now take a look at Group C featuring Colombia, Greece, Ivory Coast and Japan.  Matches will be played in Belo Horizonte, the capital Brasilia, Cuiaba, Fortaleza, Natal and Recife.

So much is expected of Colombia in 2014.  They impressed in the 2011 Copa America and even more so during the South American qualifiers for Brazil.  Star striker Radamel Falcao is expected to be back to full fitness in time to lead the attack however, for Los Cafeteros Falcao’s participation will be crucial and there will be a question mark over his fitness.

Prediction: Second Round

Greece have come a long way since burgling their way to Euro 2004 glory in route-one fashion.  The Greeks are now a regular at Euro’s and World Cups and will genuinely fancy their chances at qualifying from this group.  And rightly so, looking at the teams around them.

Prediction: Second Round

The Elephants are at their third straight FIFA World Cup  and would have been fancied to qualify from the group stages before.  However like many African teams they have flattered to deceive at the crucial moment.  Like Greece, the Ivorians will look at this pool as a real opportunity to progress to the knockout phase.

Prediction: Group Stage

The Blue Samurai surprised everyone when they reached the Last 16 in South Africa in 2010.  The Japanese emulated their achievement from 2002 when they co-hosted with South Korea.  However this time round, the men from the land of the rising sun, might find the going too tough.

Prediction: Group Stage
