The Blues dominated again in the 12th round of Vodacom Super Rugby matches where they obtained a 44-14 thrashing over the Reds. The Blues showed their energy in their last match against the Waratahs in which they won 21-13. The Reds have not been doing well as evidenced by their 12th place on the overall log.
Blues Captain Luke Braid was out with a shoulder injury, which means Kevin Mealamu wore the arm band. The Queenslanders won a penalty within the first two minutes of the game but it got turned over by Ma’a Nonu allowing the Blues to counter. Simon Hickey kicked a penalty which earned the Blues the first points of the game. In the last minute of the first half, the Auckland side had a great opportunity with a scrum about seven metres out. The platform was solid as the ball was sent out to Nonu at first receiver and they scored a try.
Hickey took the conversion quickly as the Blues pushed their lead just before half time. At half time the Blues were dominating with a 20-0 lead. In the 52nd minute Tony Woodcock got a yellow card and the Reds used this to their advantage for a comeback. Ben Daly and James Horwill tried their best to bring the Reds back into it but the Blues had the final say when replacement back Ihaia West was sent on a 60 metre run to the line by a brilliant Charles Piutau
offload from the intercept. Final score was an emphatic 44-14 annihilation in favour of the Blues.
