The Blue Bulls secured a 32-12 victory in a catchy last Absa Currie Cup match ahead of the play-offs against Griquas at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday. The home side kicked off on a high note drawing first blood with a beautiful Bjorn Basson try which Ederies Arendse cancelled seconds later to make it 7-7. From there on both sides tried to wrestle their way to the lead and the Bulls were regulars over the line adding
two more tries and and four successful spot kicks to secure a 20-12 lead at the break.
The second stanza saw both sides struggling to get anything going until the 61st minute when Basson proved why recalling him was worth a
shot diving in for his second try of the match to make it 31-12 before Jacques-Louis Potgieter’s successful conversion. Handre Pollard piled
more misery on the visitors in the 74th minute when he scored and converted himself to make it 39-12.
Akona Ndungane dashed any hopes if there were any of a comeback for the visitors with a last minute try. Up stepped Pollard to seal the deal with a conversion to make it 46-12. Frans Ludeke’s men will travel to Cape Town to take on Western Province in the semi-finals next week.
