Black Leopards upset Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 at the FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon in the Last 16 of the Nedbank Cup 2015. Chiefs came into this encounter coming from a 3-0 win over Moroka Swallows but rested lots of first team players as they were rotating their squad. Both teams looked to play an open game, but the home side had a real chance, through David Zulu who had an attempt at goal in the 14th minute but his shot went over the bar.
Morgan Shivambu opened the scoring for Leopards but the replay showed he was in an offside position as they were 1-0 up. After 30 minutes Lidoda Duvha were still in front and they continued to threatened the home defence. In the 40th minute Amakhosi were denied a penalty that caused Stuart Baxter to be sent to the stands after complaining.
In the second half the hosts were looking to score an equaliser. A great cross from Kgotso Moleko found Matthew Rusike in the box but his header was saved by the keeper in the 50th minute. After the 70th minute the Limpopo club was still in front as the home side continued to struggled in front of goal. Siphelele Mthembu replaced Rusike, and he made an immediate impact as his header was saved by Avhashoni Tshinuna.
In the 78th minute Chiefs had a corner kick. Siphiwe Tshabalala’s corner found Willard Katsande who headed the ball into the back of the net. Baxter’s boys were caught on the counter attack in the 90th minute when Roggert Nyundu scored a late win for the away side and sealed a famous win against the Absa Premiership log leaders.
