Eddie Ngalo scored the only goal as Mpumalanga Black Aces edged Mamelodi Sundowns in their Absa Premiership encounter on Tuesday at the Mbombela Stadium. The game started at a rapid pace with both teams looking in an attacking mood. Former Bloemfontein Celtic captain Thabo Nthethe nearly handed his side the lead in the 15th minute from a Teko Modise free kick, but saw his effort go astray.
Nthethe and Keagan Dolly were looking lively for Sundowns but just could not seem to break the deadlock. Thereafter, man of the match Ngalo headed home from a corner in the 37th minute as Aces went 1-0 up. But at the stroke of half-time Jackson Mabokgwane fouled Cuthbert Malajila as the home side went into the break a man down.
After the interval, Downs tried to make good use of their one man advantage as they continued piling the pressure on the hosts. Live wire Khama Billiat came close to scoring the equaliser for the Brazillians in the 58th minute but was kept at bay by substitute keeper Shu-Aib Walters. Despite having the man advantage, Pitso Mosimane’s charges couldn’t find the net as Amazayoni claimed the spoils in Nelspruit to the delight of Muhsin Ertugral.
