Defending Absa Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns were held to a 0-0 draw by a determined Bidvest Wits at Loftus Stadium on Saturday. Sibusiso Vilakazi frustrated the Sundowns defence throughout the game making it hard for them to play their normal game. The Brazilians were without their captain Alje Schut who was involved in an accident midweek.
It was a dull first half for both sides as few chances were created. Teko Modise and Hlompho Kekana both had their shots easily saved by Wits goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs. The game went to half-time as the score stayed the same but Downs were more attacking than their opponents.
Khama Billiat who was returning from injury had a shot parried away by the former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper. The Clever Boys looked like their game plan was to beat the hosts on counterattacks but their efforts did not trouble Kennedy Mweene. Elias Pelembe had the best chance to help his team earn a well needed win at home when his thunderous effort was saved by Josephs in the 85th minute.
Pitso Mosimane’s side’s attacking was putting Gavin Hunt’s men under a lot of pressure but they held firm to earn a point away from home. Wits’ defending style frustrated Sundowns and afterwards Mosimane accused Hunt’s team of not playing football.
