Barcelona Beats Bayer

Current champions Barcelona beat Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 at the Camp Nou on Tuesday in the Uefa Champions League.  The first half started with both teams looking sharp and itt was the visitors who got on the scoreboard in the early minutes.  Kyriakos Papadopoulos scored from a corner kick in the 22nd minute while the Barca players were ball watching rather than defending.

The hosts had few chances in the first half to equalise and at half-time the score was 1-0 to the Germans.  At the beginning of the second half Leverkusen started the well and had an excellent chance to make the score 2-0.  Javier Hernandez was given a wonderful assist when he was in the area but missed a golden opportunity to put the Bundesliga club in a strong position.

Not long later, Luis Enrique’s charges had a great chance when Sandro, on the right wing, hit a powerful right footed shot that just went wide..  The game started to change drastically for the visitors thereafter with the Catalans attacking in search of an equaliser.  The last two goals came just ten minutes before the end of the match. First Sergio Roberto came off the bench to net the equaliser after Bayer’s goalkeeper failed to control the ball in the 80th minute.

Just a few minutes later Luis Suarez hit a superb strike into the back of the net to seal the comeback.  Barcelona dominated the pace of the game in the second half and showed their determination to win the game while one could say the German side was a little unlucky to come away with nothing.
