The Royal Challangers Bangalore recorded a seven run victory over the Kolkata Knight Riders in an exciting IPL match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on Saturday. The hosts won the toss and put the Knight Riders to bat first. Both teams were curtailed to 10 overs a piece after the match was delayed for over an hour due to heavy rainfall. Gautam Pandey and Robin Uthappa began proceedings and put a combined 33 runs on the board before the Knight Riders’ captain was removed by David Wiese.
Andre Russell joined Uthappa at the crease and racked up an impressive 45 from 17 balls before being run out with the visitors 96/3 after 8.4 overs. Trevor Bayliss’ men crossed the 100-mark through Ryan ten Doeschate (12) and Yusuf Pathan (11 not out) as the visitors finished their 10 overs with a score of 111/4. Daniel Vettori’s men had posted 48 runs before the first wicket fell, with Andre Russell helping Brad Hogg claim Chris Gayle’s (21) scalp as the Jamaican made easy work of catching his fellow countryman’s long on-attempt.
AB De Villiers (2) had a short-lived cameo before Mandeep Singh joined Virat Kohli (34) at the crease, however the latter was soon dismissed by Russell (81/3). David Wiese (9 not out) joined Singh and the pair finished unbeaten as Singh’s brilliant 45 from 18 balls, which included two sixes in the final over, helped the hosts clinch their first home win of the season.
